IT’S A GAGA WORLD: DIVA DOMINATES VMA NOMS

MTV has announced the nominees for the 2010 Video Music Awards, and Lady Gaga leads the pack with 13 nods, including Best Pop Video, Best Female Video and Best Dance Music Video for her global smash “Bad Romance.” That gives Gaga the most nominations ever in a single VMAs. She’s the first female nominated for two different videos in the Video of the Year category, with “Bad Romance” and “Telephone” featuring Beyoncé.

Said Gaga on getting the news: "I'm so honored for all the little monsters and self-professed freaks of the universe, to have more VMA nominations in a single year than any artist in MTV history. Ironically, I'm even more proud it’s an unlucky number; 13,” said Lady Gaga. “A long time ago, the world told me and my little monsters we would never be heard, together we changed the rules. God put me on Earth for three reasons: To make loud music, gay videos and cause a damn raucous. Thank you, MTV!"

Eminem is this year’s most nominated male artist, racking up eight nominations, including Best Male Video and Video of the Year for “Not Afraid.”

Em’s response was a bit edgier than his labelmate’s: "Apparently, MTV doesn't care that I have two massive stadium shows on the other side of the country the day after the VMAs. Fuck me, right?!?! I mean, I'll be there, but don't expect me to be nice about it."

Among established stars, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, P!nk, Thirty Seconds to Mars (another Video of the Year nominee), Katy Perry and Usher are also in the mix.

Rookie Ke$ha is up for three Moonmen for “Tik Tok,” while emerging rapper B.o.B received a Video of the Year nom for "Airplanes" and is up against Drake in the Best Hip-Hop competition, with five nods in all.

Other first-timers include Justin Bieber for Best New Artist for “Baby,” Florence + the Machine with five noms for “Dog Days Are Over,” including one for Video of the Year, and Mumford & Sons with a Best Cinematography nod for “Little Lion Man.”

The VMAs will air live from L.A.’s Nokia Theatre on Sunday, Sept. 12. MTV will announce additional performers, presenters and host as the big night approaches.

Go, GAGA!
